Established in 1980 by co-founders Buddy Amos, Jim Burns, Jim Click Jr., Ed Moore and Granger Weil, the Greater Tucson Area Foundation sought to bring new sources of philanthropic dollars to southern Arizona. In 1984, we became the Tucson Community Foundation. In 1997, we changed our name to the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona to reflect our regional presence beyond Tucson.

Assets and Impact
Over the years CFSA donors have provided funding for a variety of causes - from the arts to education to the environment. Cumulatively they have granted more than $90 million through CFSA.
CFSA assets have grown steadily from $3 million in 1986, to $7 million in 1990, to $25 million in 1995, reaching the highest in CFSA's history at $118 million in 2007. Due to the downturn in the market, today we hold nearly 500 funds and $77 million in assets.
History of Competitive Grant Making
Despite the economic downturn, CFSA's grant making has remained steady over the years.
