Alternatives to Private Foundations

Some clients may come to you with the belief that a private foundation provides their only option for long-term involvement with the assets they set aside for charitable purposes.

In reality, a named fund or supporting organization at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona offers numerous advantages to these clients, provides real ways for them to stay engaged in giving, and avoids the hassles of private foundation management.

Approaches to Giving

Assets of a private foundation may be used to establish donor advised funds, unrestricted fund, field of interest funddesignated fund, supporting organization, or a scholarship fund. Each approach allows your client to remain involved in their grant making, if that is their desire.  And depending on the type of fund that is established, the private foundation's board can stay involved in setting grant priorities, advising on grant awards and assessing grant success. CFSA will ensure that the donor's intent, fund name and pattern of charitable giving are maintained - in perpetuity if they wish.
