Community Foundation Launches Technical Assistance Program in Partnership with the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and Cox Communications

Last Updated Apr 2010

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA), a grant making organization and a leading voice for innovative solutions in Southern Arizona, today announced a new partnership and program that will offer technical assistance to the 21 Southern Arizona nonprofit organizations that received funding in the 2009 Community Investment Grants Round, CFSA’s annual competitive grant process, and the 156 organizations that submitted full online applications.

With the expertise of the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and Cox Communications, the CFSA Technical Assistance Program will provide important capacity-building training in areas that the nonprofits have identified as most critical to their success and sustainability.

The Alliance of Nonprofits will develop Individual Training and Technical Assistance Plans that will include hands-on consulting and coaching in the area of strategic planning, board development and evaluation, as well as an online networking and resource sharing environment for the 21 grant recipients. More targeted workshops will be offered for the nonprofits that also participated in the Community Investment Grants process. Patrick McWhortor, President & CEO of the Alliance, congratulated the Community Foundation on its commitment to nonprofit capacity building: “In times like these, nonprofits are looking for ways to streamline operations, find creative ways to continue providing services and sustain their missions. We look forward to our partnership with the Community Foundation to bring these resources to southern Arizona’s nonprofit community.”

Cox Communications understands the importance of conveying the value of the work of these nonprofits to the community and will offer workshops on how to write an effective PSA and how to market your organization to potential supporters. In addition, Cox will provide PSA production and in-kind spots on its large local communications network.

“One way that the Community Foundation strives to strengthen southern Arizona’s communities, is by providing leadership on addressing social issues and building strong partnerships,” said Jonathan Rothschild, CFSA Board of Trustees. “The CFSA Technical Assistance Program will provide the help that southern Arizona nonprofits require to be effective in meeting our communities’ most pressing needs.”

The mission of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is to work with charitably minded individuals and organizations to strengthen Southern Arizona communities, now and for generations to come. A public organization with more than $90 million in assets, this foundation has allocated more than $100 million to the community since its founding in 1980.
