Residents of Southern Arizona need relief...
Through $442,000 granted to Southern Arizona nonprofits in June 2009, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is providing relief to the most vulnerable in our community.

The economic crisis has spared no segment of our community. Basic needs such as employment, housing and food are top-of-mind for many. But the physical and mental health consequences of the economic crisis are increasing at a rapid pace; arts organizations provide emotional outlets and enjoyment against all the gloomy news; neighborhood centers and advocacy groups help keep the peace during these times.

People in Southern Arizona need relief from this economic crisis. Waiting lists and supply/demand statistics have left Tucson's most effective nonprofits with their hands tied, financially unable to provide support to our community needs.

... and stability
But this short-term relief is only part of the solution. Despite this need for immediate aid, we cannot let the stress of the economy distract us from plans for future growth and stability: revitalizing Tucson, increasing literacy, reducing crime, improving education...

The Community Foundation targets its Community Investment Grants with the good of the whole community in mind, rather than thinking merely of the survival of particular agencies. Through the 2009 Community Investment Grant round, we invited nonprofits, businesses, government and donors to work together to put the needs of the community first.

100% Granted to Local Charities
The Economic Relief and Stability Fund (ERSF) was started in December 2008 through the generosity of a few key donors and approval from the Community Foundation Board of Trustees to dedicate its 2009 discretionary budget to this cause. 100% of the funds contributed to the ERSF was granted to local nonprofit organizations in June 2009.
